1. Poverty, vulnerability and inequality

Sustainable Development Goal 1 seeks to eradicate poverty in all its forms worldwide. To accomplish this goal, a solid understanding of poverty, vulnerability and inequality is key. The evidence on the extent of poverty and inequality is undeniable and addressing it continues to be a challenging issue on so many levels worldwide. The question remains how to arrive at policies that assist the poor and vulnerable in gaining sustainable access to the resources they need to be self-sufficient and enable them to have the “capability” to contribute and participate in their societies in the long term. Research within this theme seeks to contribute to a better understanding of the root causes of poverty and inequality and to contribute to the discussion on how to identify and target vulnerable persons.
