4. Fiscal policy for social protection

Social protection improves resilience, equity, and opportunity if provided with the appropriate blend of instruments and integration with labour systems and tax policies. This research group has longstanding consolidated capacity in conducting fiscal space and social budgeting exercises. These studies next feed into policy recommendations regarding social policy design, financing mechanisms, resources allocation adjustments, and, more generally, public finance management. Within the analysis, political acceptability, and financial, economic and fiscal efficiency of the existing financing strategies are at the core of the affordability debate.
